Would you pay $182.14 US for this USED softcover book?

That is what someone
on ebay is asking.
On Amazon, someone has it listed at $156
and a while back I saw it for $220....all used.
I'm sorry but that's just nuts.

I have only seen one project made from this book
a cute, retro style, crochet owl cosy.
So I was always left with the impression
that this book must be full of amazing little projects.
Well I discovered this is NOT the case.

A couple of days ago I found a copy
at my local bookstore for $4.99.
You can imagine how thrilled I was....
until I opened the book.
There are only a couple of cute tea cosies
the owl and the one on the cover.
The rest are either boring or just plain ugly.
Honestly, I think $4.99 is about the
right price for this book.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE tea cosies, so I it kills me
to diss one of the few cosy books out there.
But there are 2 books that I would recommend,
both have gotten good feedback and are priced right.
This first is called Wild Tea Cosies
and the second, which I have,
is simply called Tea Cosies.

Also, here are a couple of sites that
you might enjoy.
Check out Handmadelife
for her version of the owl cosy from the Killer book
and Wild For Tea Cosies
which is a wonderful site penned by
Loani Prior,
the author of Wild Tea Cosies .
Here you will find pictures of some beautiful cosies ,
some from her book and some from other sources.
And last but not least Ravelry has a great
group called Cuppa Tea.
Check out their completed cosies and also their
great forum!

You should post your review on Amazon! :)

I just went to Amazon and saw that someone gave this slim, overpriced book a 5 star review so, as Heather suggested, I posted my own 1 star review.
How someone can suggest that this book is worth well over $100 is beyond me.

I did notice on another site that it has been reprinted in Australia for the equivalent of about $30 US.
That's a little closer to reality and hopefully you would get to look at the book in a store before buying it.

Thank you sukigirl for mentioning my little book, Wild Tea Cosies.

Some clever person has figured out that if you put an outrageous price on something, it becomes immediately desirable. That tactic worked on me. I paid $90 Australian 4 years ago for Killer Tea Cosies.

I was so furious when I received it in the post, that I wrote my own tea cosy book!

Wild Tea Cosies has received some less than wonderful reviews on Amazon UK. It is probably just as well we don't all like the same thing or the world would be a very boring place.

All kinds of people like all kinds of things that others cannot conceive of. That's as it should be.

But it is quite another thing to feel that one has been ripped off. Buyer beware.

Grand Purl Baa, I'm glad something good (your book) came out of your bad experience. Ever since this all started I've been eyeing your Carmen Miranda cosie...it's wonderful!!

Dawn, you're welcome, I hope you enjoy the links.

That is nutz..

BTW I gave you an award over on my blog :)

I use double pointed needles. If you are worry about similar size try to do both socks at the same time. Of course then you´ll need 2x5 needles. But I´m sure that when you knit more socks you´ll get easier same size both socks =)

CraftyMummy2two, Thanks for the award I really appreciate it!

Mette, I never thought about working the 2 socks on 2 different sets of dpns. I keep eyeing a book that shows you how to knit 2 socks at the same time on circular needles.
Maybe I'll tackle socks again when the weather gets colder.
